A free online CPD workshop, led by a trained volunteer, is the perfect way to get started. Choose from our range of workshops below; use the tabs to find out more.
This workshop provides the perfect introduction to programming in the Scratch environment through a series of code reading and writing activities (all with a camel theme!). It highlights the application of computational thinking skills in programming and introduces the concepts of sequence, repetition and selection through a series of interactive activities.
This workshop is best placed for beginner to intermediate Scratch users and we recommend you complete our Computational Thinking workshop first, unless you are already familiar with computational thinking concepts and approaches.
You will need to create a free Scratch account before joining this workshop.
Our Programming Workshops are all hosted online through either Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet. Workshops typically last 60-75 minutes – with plenty of time to ask questions.

Designed to boost subject knowledge and confidence, this workshop will introduce you to computational thinking and help you get started with Barefoot.
During the online interactive session, you will give some of Barefoot’s “unplugged” activities a try – proving you don’t need expensive kit to teach computing. You’ll also be introduced to the Barefoot website and our fantastic range of lesson plans and resources.
This workshop is targeted at teachers with little experience and confidence in teaching computational thinking and computer science. Unsure about algorithms or decomposition? This session will provide the perfect introduction and support you to get started, providing reassurance and next steps.
Our Computational Thinking Workshops are all hosted online through either Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet. Workshops typically last 60-75 minutes – with plenty of time to ask questions.
Designed to boost subject knowledge and confidence, this workshop will introduce you to computational thinking in the Early Years and help you get started with Barefoot.
During the online interactive session, you will give some of Barefoot’s Early Years activities a try and see how computational thinking links with the Early Years framework. You’ll also be introduced to the Barefoot website and our fantastic range of resources designed especially for Early Years.
This workshop is targeted at practitioners and teachers with little experience and confidence in teaching computational thinking.

Take a look at some testimonials received from teachers who have attended our three workshops below.
“In Early Years we can be afraid of delivering technology-based experiences as we fear it’s too advanced or we don’t know the correct language to use. This workshop put it into perspective and inspired me to do more.” “I found the workshop really useful; it has refreshed my thoughts on technology and given me such great ideas and resources that I’m sure all the kids will love.”
“Even though the course was online, it was interactive and engaging. I liked that we were asked to do some of the activities that you can do with your pupils as it let me see how easy it can be to develop computational skills within the classroom.” “It really made me think and help understand what computational thinking is really about. The clear cross curricular links and how it is often something we are already doing, just not thought of in that way!”
“I've tried to have several introductions to Scratch before but this one is the best by far - practical projects, videos were great, delivery was clear and interesting.”
“Really engaging and fun activities that could be used with children. Also, good for developing staff confidence and subject knowledge.”
